The Soap Kitchen is a natural bath product manufacturing company located in Trinidad W.I. The concept of the business began in 2007 after Leigh decided she had enough of the "working world" she wanted to do something fulfilling, a job that made her happy. This is a step most of us want to make in life but not all of us are brave enough to actually do it.  "When people find out that I’ve been working from home they often respond with both envy and fear: “I’d like to do that myself…but I can’t afford to give up my paycheck. How could I possibly get started doing this? How do you get started on something like that?” would usually be the next set of questions coming my way.

While there’s no magic formula, Leigh belives there are things you can do that make it more possible to move successfully from a 9-to-5 office career toanything you want to be.

Leigh learnt to make soap from her grandmother and just expanded on that. Since discovering the art and magic of soap making Leigh always loved creating soap recipes but never thought she would turn her love for soap making into a profitable business. Leigh has always been inspired by her childhood love of nature's scents, her creative spirit and her intuitive sense of comfort. She set out to create the best natural soap for her family and friends. After many months and countless trials, the perfect recipe was created. A chemical analysis was done on her products by leading labs and she immediately got the necessary approvals to sell her products locally as well as internationally. Leigh’s soap received rave reviews and was soon in high demand. Leigh started selling her creations at local artisans' and craft markets and then branched out to retail shops, spas and bed and breakfasts. After mastering the art of soap making, Leigh expanded her product line to include lotions, Body butters, liquid soaps, lip balms and other bath products, also soy candles, linen water, burner oils for the home, all made with the highest quality ingredients and with the same loving care as her soap.

A born researcher
If you remember only one thing about me, I hope it's this: I am above all, a researcher. I don't take information for granted. I was inspired to start leading an organic lifestyle by a friend of mine. I develop the lifestyle choices and discerning eye in my quest to find a balance in life, which would be the foundations for a healthy mind and body. The standards for the things I put into and on my body are exceedingly high. I am a label reader, an ingredient scrutinizer and formula evaluator, Click here to learn how I evaluate products.

Travel sets the stage
Fortunately, being the child of a travel-holic- gave me an unique opportunity to learn about and research a vast array of viewpoints not only on health but other lifestyles. I was able to understand how their beauty and health customs were as diverse as their geographies, philosophies and foods and what they each believed in.

A perfect match I am very passionate about using and making eco-friendly, botanical based products.  I have been learning about environmental issues since I was a teenager, and aromatherapy and herbalism since 2003. I would like to do a master's in Environmental Science and Policy and in the very near future start a degree program in Phytotherapy-the scientific study of herbal medicine, all for the love of what I do. I am focused on treating causes rather than symptoms by supporting the body's natural processes rather than suppressing or replacing them.

My environmental interests include conservation, mammals, urban wildlife issues, environmental education/awareness, ethnobotany, and public perception.

Crafting interests include all natural and organic plant based cosmetics (skin and hair care), vegetarian and vegan products, kitchen cosmetics, aromatherapy, herbalism, eco-friendly house cleaning products, mineral makeup, paper making, book binding (journal making)and of course soaps and more soaps. In the near future, I plan to start making all natural, vegan make-up.

two "saffrons" are born
The next stage of my life involved becoming a mother. After the birth of my second child Chris, I decided to channel my knowledge and passion for plants, organics, the environment and beauty into a business that allow people to discover and experience the purest, highest-quality all-natural beauty and aromatherapy products . As nearly all natural skin care products are plant-based, my training and experience with The Soap Kitchen helps me to evaluate products for quality, purity and effectiveness. Equally important, was my desire to promote the values of biodynamics, organic living and respect for the environment.

nothing but the best
I support companies that promote fair-trade practices, certified organic farming, and biodynamic agriculture. Most importantly, I do not compromise on quality - ever
