The Soap Kitchen uses various natural ingredients in our products including nut oils, essential oils, herbs, and botanicals. Each person is different and those with allergies or skin sensitivities may experience a reaction. If irritation occurs, please discontinue use and visit your doctor.
You are encouraged to do an allergy test before using any of our product.

Allergy patch test

Apply a small amount of the item you have decided on testing on the upper part of your inner arm – at the crock of your elbow, cover it with a bandage. You should decide to do this at a time of day where you can leave the patch test in place for at least 24 hours without getting it wet. If you are sensitive to any of the ingredients, a reaction such as reddening, itching, burning or other irritation, should occur within twenty four hours of application. If you don’t see or feel any reaction the preparation is most likely safe for your use. If you are testing herbs, mix a small amount of the herbs with water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the same area as described above for the patch test. Even after doing a patch test and not have any reaction to our products, the decision to continue using them is totally up to you.

What is patch testing

This is a way of identifying a substance that causes contact dermatitis or inflammation of the skin. There are two types we are aware of- irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.

An irritant contact dermatitis does not involve the immune system. It is most common immediately after the patch is removed and would usually fade over the next day.

An allergic contact dermatitis is caused by an allergen and occurs only in those who are allergic to that particular substance. These reactions involve the immune system. This may take a few days to develop. A substance that causes an allergic reaction should be avoided completely. The more times the skin is exposed to the substance, the worst the allergic reaction can become.

Some of the soaps have no scent added to them- these especially cater to the babies and the elderly as their skin is very tender.  Even though these do not contain essential oils you would still love the earthy, natural aroma due to ingredients such as grains, flowers, herbs and spices.

Remember “Natural” does not mean “allergy free”. Essential oils or any flower, herb, oil or additive, can still cause an allergic reaction or reactions in certain individuals. Always remember if you notice any adverse affects, PLEASE DISCONTINUE USE.
PEOPLE WITH SEVERE ALLERGIES- PLEASE NOTE- If you have severe anaphylactic type reactions to ANY of the ingredients in ANY ONE OF OUR PRODUCTS, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE OUR PRODUCTS. We have a soap room that is always sanitized before and after use, it is meticulously clean. But we cannot under no circumstances guarantee that one soap did not touch another.
